Accounting Major

A Bachelor of Science Degree with a Major in Accounting prepares students for a career in private accounting as well as graduate studies. The program also provides students with the required educational prerequisites to sit for the Certified Management Accountant (CMA) examination. Students are encouraged to pursue an internship experience as part of their program. In addition, students are encouraged to develop as much elective depth in computer course work as their programs will allow. Students desiring to sit for the Certified Public Accountant (CPA) examination are required to have 150 hours in most states. To meet this requirement, students can obtain the additional 26 hours beyond the 124 hours required for a Bachelor of Science degree at any institution, including Culver-Stockton College. Students who plan to complete the additional hours at Culver-Stockton College should consult their academic advisor for the specific state requirements. Many students choose to continue their education at the graduate level. For those anticipating graduate school, Auditing, Accounting Systems and Control, and a calculus course are strongly recommended.
