Greetings!

Many people, whether they work in a college or not, aren’t exactly sure what enrollment management entails. Most likely, the reason for the confusion is that enrollment management, as a profession, is only 12 years old and doesn’t exist at every college and university.

The closest analogy in career development may be that enrollment management is to admissions what marketing is to public relations. In the classic tradition, the admissions office works to solicit and enroll a new student body each year, just as the classic role for public relations was media and community relations.

Inthe broader scope of the redefined professions, enrollment management coordinates all the initiatives aimed at recruiting students with all the initiatives aimed at retaining students, just as marketing now encompasses management of the college-wide message and image.

At Culver-Stockton, this plays out as not only in our day-to-day activities but also in development and implementation of retention, recruitment, and marketing strategies. We gather the data as a foundation for creative planning and effective implementation. For example, last year we conducted focus groups with C-SC students to surface their concerns and, as a result, we hired an associate dean of student success and first year programming who is designing new initiatives identified as helpful by students.

Nearly everything that happens on campus can affect whether students want to come to Culver-Stockton and whether they want to stay here. Enrollment management focuses our total campus resources on attracting students and to providing the customer service once they’re here that makes Culver-Stockton a place where they want to stay to get their education.

I encourage you to contact me if you have questions.
