Spring leadership institute and orientation launch new semester

Student leaders enjoy an activity during the institute. |
The Student Life and Student Success offices of Culver-Stockton College are collaborating to host the first annual C-SC Wildcat Leadership Institute and Spring Semester orientation for students before the new semester classes start on January 14. More than 60 students representing student organizations are registered for the Wildcat Leadership Institute, which will focus on developing individual skills and strengthening organizational dynamics for campus groups. “We are excited about providing this educational opportunity for our student leaders,” said Wendy Powers, associate dean for student success. “They set the tone for the campus environment, which is continuing to evolve and strengthen.” Students attending the institute will also help provide an orientation for new students January 12-13. Freshmen and transfer students, both residential and commuter, will be on campus to finalize registration and financial aid, and learn more about the campus while becoming involved in student activities. In addition to campus move-in and tours, the students will attend the basketball games against Lindenwood University, participate in a trivia contest, compete in a bowling challenge, enjoy a Student Life Variety Show and catch “Dinner and a Movie.”

Culver-Stockton College student Bethany Shannon will let her arts management talents shine as an intern at The John F. Kennedy Center for Performing Arts in the Theatre for Young Audiences Program in Washington, D.C., from January 15 through May 9. The Kennedy Center only accepts about 20 interns every semester. "The Theatre for Young Audiences Program commissions brand new never-before-seen works every year," said Shannon, who is from Marshall, Mo. "My duties will include sales analysis, budgeting, "Playbill," production meetings, technical rehearsals, artist hospitality, and several other areas in the department." Shannon, who will graduate in May 2008 with a bachelor of fine arts degree in arts management, previously completed an internship at the Arrow Rock Lyceum Theatre in Arrow Rock, Mo.
While at Culver-Stockton, Shannon has performed in a variety of C-SC productions and been selected twice to audition for the Irene Ryan Acting Scholarships at the Region 5 festivals of the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival. "Everyone at Culver-Stockton has been so supportive," Shannon said. "I am really excited for this internship opportunity. It is the perfect time to further explore my interests and make a career out of it." > Full story
Spring Visit Day scheduled April 19
Prospective students are invited to visit campus on Saturday, April 19. Group visit days are offered to provide future students with an opportunity to hear from college administrators and a panel of current students. Campus tours and an academic and activity fair also are scheduled. Prospective students will meet with their admissions counselors after lunch, while their parents learn about financial aid. If students are unable to attend the group visit day, their Culver-Stockton admissions counselor can arrange for a personalized visit, tailored to their needs. In a personalized visit, for example, prospective students can talk with current C-SC students, meet with professors and/or coaches, audition for fine arts, take a personalized tour of campus, or learn about financial aid. Nothing is more important than visiting campus to see the environment, meet students and faculty, and learn for yourself what college has to offer. Culver-Stockton is a unique school in a beautiful setting, and we know students will experience that during their visit here. Personalized visits are available year-round. For more information, to request a visit, or to reserve a space on April 19, click here.
Complete FAFSA as soon as possible to ensure financial aid
Students and their families can now complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) for the 2008-09 academic year. "We encourage students to complete the FAFSA as soon as possible after January 1 and to list Culver-Stockton to receive their information," said Tina Wiseman, Culver-Stockton director of financial aid. "All financial aid eligibility is determined through FAFSA, and we must have a form on file with us before we can determine their aid package." The C-SC FAFSA code is 002460. March 1 is the priority deadline for maximum funding consideration. "Students who want to ensure they receive the best aid package possible, need to complete three steps before the end of February: apply, submit C-SC’s online financial aid estimator and complete their FAFSA application," Wiseman added.
