C-SC students celebrate new curriculum
Culver-Stockton College students celebrated their new curriculum during special events recently. Students were asked to vote on a logo for the EXP@CSC curriculum that begins next fall and combines a traditional liberal arts foundation with expanded opportunities for experience in their field. The curriculum also features an innovative academic calendar that splits the 15-week semester into a 12-week long term and a 3-week short term.  The 3-week classes feature in-depth opportunities for taking one on-campus course or pursuing one of the experiential courses that could include travel abroad or within the United States, as well as internships, practicums, independent research, clinical experience, etc. Culver-Stockton has created a rewards program to help students take full advantage of the experiential courses. Every C-SC student can accrue up to $1,500 in EXP@CSC Rewards vouchers during their four years at Culver-Stockton that can be used to pay for certain course-related expenses. The EXP@CSC logo was revealed in festivities over the lunch hour. Students also are competing in two contests using the new logo that will result in an online video and a T-shirt design. Winners will be announced after spring break when students return to campus March 31. Online registration for the new curriculum begins April 7. Incoming students will sign up for classes during Registration and Orientation events, Friday, May 23, Friday, June 20, and Saturday, July 19.

Still time to apply for financial aid for Fall 2008
It’s not too late to apply for financial aid for next fall.  You still have about four weeks to apply for some private scholarships. Some possibilities are listed through online scholarship search websites such as fastweb.com, collegeboard.com, and scholarships.com. Researching private scholarships is daunting and requires diligence, but it is an important part of affording college. Now is also the time that you might be asked to turn in verification documents if you have already completed your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). If you are selected for verification, make sure you submit all the forms as soon as possible.  And don’t forget to complete your Culver-Stockton admissions and/or financial aid documents immediately to take advantage of discretionary funding that might be available. If you have questions, contact the C-SC financial aid office.

Sign up for Spring Visit Day scheduled April 19
Reservations are being accepted for prospective students to visit the C-SC campus on Saturday, April 19.  Group visit days are offered to provide future students with an opportunity to hear from college administrators and a panel of current students. Campus tours and an academic and activity fair also are scheduled.  If you are unable to attend the group visit day, contact your Culver-Stockton admissions counselor to arrange for a personalized visit. Nothing is more important than visiting campus to see the environment, meet students and faculty, and learn for yourself what college has to offer. For more information, click here.

Taryn and her parents will be the college’s guests for a performance of The Rocky Horror Show on April 25, which includes complimentary overnight lodging and a dinner with the Fine Arts faculty.  Performances of The Rocky Horror Show, C-SC’s final production of the 2007-08 academic year, are scheduled at 7:30 p.m. April 24, 25, and 26, with a matinee at 3 p.m. on April 26.

C-SC hosts 50th annual science fair and high school math competition

Area high schools participated in the 50th annual Culver-Stockton Science Fair on Saturday, February 23.

Culver-Stockton hosted two competitions for area students in February. The 50th annual C-SC science fair drew 150 competitors from junior high and senior high school students. Judges reviewed 116 projects and selected Southeastern High School, Augusta, Ill., and Central Lee Junior High School, Donnellson, Iowa, as the overall winners in their category. Individual winners are listed online.  C-SC also hosted more than 100 high school students for the American Mathematics Competition, the first round of a national competition dedicated to strengthening the mathematical capabilities of U.S. youth. After each round of competition, fewer students are allowed to advance. Only the top 10-15 students in the nation will be invited to represent the United States in the International Mathematical Olympiad, which will be held July 10-22 in Madrid, Spain.

Track and Field teammates compete at nationals
Two members of the new Culver-Stockton College men's track and field team competed at the NAIA Indoor Track and Field Championships March 6-9 in Johnson City, Tenn. Jordan Bucklew, a junior sport management major from Clovis, Calif., placed 10th overall in the heptathlon. Zach Rosenberger, a sophomore sport management major from Columbia City, Ind., placed 7th overall in the pole vault.  Both athletes advanced to nationals after winning their individual events and all-conference honors during the Heart of America Athletic Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships. Click here for full coverage of the events.  Outdoor track and field competition begins Friday, March 21, at the Central Methodist University Easter Open in Fayette, Mo.
