150 years of Culver Stockton College have made countless impressions on those who have been a part. Some have been small; others large. They fall into the categories of people, places and other types of landmarks that can be best classified as the seduction at Culver. Some were highlighted with disasters, such as floods, fires and, most recently, tornadoes, but the meaningful ones revolve around the people that have made Culver unique.
The late Jake Allen described his 42 Years on the Hill in a most unique way. Furthermore, retired history professor George Lee has taken it to a larger level. We have learned about some of the rituals of Culver and the background that made them memorable. From beanies to picnics to the likes of Senior Skip Day or Flunk Day, it is the little things that made college life one that we have all enjoyed and that was the college at-large. There are other stories, perhaps not as well recorded, that enhance the environment in many ways. This is our Culver Stockton heritage and the Men of Sigma Phi Epsilon occupied a wonderful niche for 47 years.
This was the case for a group of over 400 men that made up the fraternity known as Sigma Phi Epsilon. The epitaph reads from l946-1993, and like most obituaries, the numbers only tell a little of the story. However, as is such the case with many fraternities, while the organization is no longer part of the campus, the relationships, the friendships and the memories remain. This is, without a doubt, truly the essence of Culver-Stockton College.
