As a student at Culver-Stockton College, Giselle Walsh ’89 loved learning. Now as a professional working for MDC Wallcoverings in Elk Grove, Ill., Giselle still loves learning. In fact, she says each day offers her the opportunity to learn something new, and that is what she enjoys most about her career. Giselle is the manager of training and development, as well as director of environmental responsiveness for MDC Wallcoverings. “My primary focus is training. I am responsible for the training program for our 70 person, nationwide sales force,” explains Giselle. Her secondary role focuses on helping interior designers and architects understand the environmental attributes of each of the products MDC represents. “As an extension of that effort, I am currently managing our company’s ISO 14000 compliancy application, which will document our reduced impact on the planet.”
Giselle credits Culver-Stockton College for shaping her life and career. “I would not have had an opportunity to attend a four year college had it not been for Culver-Stockton,” she explains. “We didn’t have money for higher education when I was growing up, and I feared that I would have to work and attend night school, but the financial aid package that Culver-Stockton put together for me made it possible for me to attend as a full-time student. I’m forever grateful.”
Giselle married her husband, Rick, in 1994. The couple has two children, Juliana, 8, and Nolan, 7. “They are our inspiration every day and keep us moving and learning non-stop.” When Giselle isn’t spending time with her family or working, she enjoys being a founding member of the Culver-Stockton College Chicago Area Alumni Club. “It is our goal to engage as many alumni in the area; and to get together in the name of the school and support C-SC in its efforts to continue to help students.”
