Four athletes from the Culver-Stockton College track and field team are headed to the 2010 NAIA Indoor Track and Field Championships, which are scheduled for Thursday-Saturday, March 4-6, in Johnson City, Tenn.
Junior
Courtney Spann (Pleasant Plains, Ill.) will be the first to compete for the Wildcats as the women's 3,000-meter race walk final is scheduled for noon on Friday, March 5. Spann recorded the 12th-best qualifying time in the event with a season-best 16 minutes, 55.25 seconds. Alex Lo of McKendree University (Ill.) is the top qualifier with a time of 14 minutes, 42.24 seconds.
Sophomore sprinter
Blair Wyman (East Peoria, Ill.) will also be action on Friday, competing in the women's 200-meter dash. Wyman, who set the 26th best qualifying time this season with a run of 26.23 seconds, will try to qualify for the semifinal race that evening at 6:05 pm (EST). The finals of the 200 are slated for Saturday at 2:35 p.m. (EST). Kim Smith of Wayland Baptist University (Texas) is the top qualifier with a time of 24.62 seconds.
The meet concludes on Saturday, March 6, with a full slate of events. Freshman
Stefanos Koufidis (Athens, Greece) and sophomore
Janet Plonka (Glen Ellyn, Ill.) will compete in the men's pole vault and the women's high jump, respectively. The pole vault is slated for 1:15 p.m. while the high jump is scheduled for 1:30 p.m.
Koufidis is the top qualifier in the pole vault with a mark of 17 feet, 2 inches. The second-highest qualifier is Jeff Lewis of Oklahoma Baptist University, who has reached 16 feet, 7¼ inches this winter.
Plonka qualified in a tie for eighth in the event with a jump of 5 feet, 5 inches earlier this winter. The top qualifier is Natasha Miller of Biola University (Calif.) with a mark of 5 feet, 9¾ inches.
