The softball program has quietly built itself into a regional power since 1993. Over that span, the Wildcats have won four conference titles and appeared in the regional tournament 11 times, winning the region tournament in 2001 and advancing to the NAIA Softball World Series. The Wildcats have produced two All-America players and three conference player-of-the-year awards. In addition 18 players since 1993 have been named NAIA Scholar-Athletes, and two others have named CoSIDA Academic All-Americans. CANTON, Mo. -- Culver-Stockton College had four players recognized as 2010 Daktronics-NAIA Softball Scholar-Athletes by the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics this week.
Named to the list was senior Katie Thomas, a pitcher from Camp Point, Ill. (Camp Point Central HS); junior Jessica Davis, a third baseman from New London, Mo. (Mark Twain HS); junior Danielle Wilson, an outfielder from Bethalto, Ill. (Civic Memorial HS); and junior Kelly Gronewold, an infielder from Mendon, Ill. (Unity HS).
Thomas, a mathematics major, appeared in 25 games, making 21 starts, and hurling a team-high 146.1 innings. She finished the season with a 5-18 overall record, had 19 complete games, and recorded 55 strikeouts against 28 walks.
Davis, a mathematics major, played in 24 of the 40 games for the Wildcats, making 21 starts. She batted .230 with three doubles, one home run and nine RBI.
Wilson, a psychology major, started 17 of the 25 games she played in this season. She batted .182 with one double and six RBI.
Gronewold, an athletic training major, played in 22 games, making 16 starts this season. She batted .191 with one double and five RBI.
Two hundred seventy-five softball players were recipients of the NAIA-Daktronics Scholar-Athlete honor. Student-athletes must have a junior or senior academic standing and maintain a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.50.
