Canton, Mo. -- Culver-Stockton College Athletic Director Greg McVey announced Aron Potter has been named Culver-Stockton College’s next softball coach. Potter replaces Rich Meyer, who guided the program the past two seasons.

"I am honored to announce Aron Potter as our new softball coach", said McVey. "We are fortunate to have a hall of fame player come back to the Hill to lead our softball program."

Potter, a native of Vandalia, Mo., was most recently a volunteer assistant softball coach and instructor at the University of Central Missouri from 2008-10 before returning to Culver-Stockton in August 2010 as a lecturer of physical education.

"Culver-Stockton has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember," said Potter. "When I had the opportunity to return to campus last fall, I was excited because it gave me the opportunity to give back to the campus that has meant so much to me. The opportunity to lead the Lady Wildcat softball program is just an extension of that opportunity."

Prior to UCM, Potter served stints as head softball coach, first at Coffeyville (Kan.) Community College from 2002-05, and then at Missouri Southern State University in Joplin from 2005-08.

At Coffeyville, Potter took over a program that was under .500 and moved them up to an above .500 team in her three seasons. She posted a 79-83 overall record in her three seasons, including a 31-25 overall record and a 12-6 conference mark in 2005 when the Red Ravens placed second in National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region VI play. She was the Kansas Jayhawk East Conference Coach of the Year in 2003.

Potter was hired as Missouri Southern’s sixth head coach in the summer of 2005 and coached the Lions for three seasons, tabulating a 41-88 overall record. Her best season in Joplin was in 2006 when the Lions finished 17-23 overall. Off the field, MSSU were twice named as one of the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Academic Division II Top 25 academic teams during Potter's tenure.

Potter played at Culver-Stockton from 1994-97 where she was four-year letterwinner. She was a three-time Heart of America Athletic Conference (HAAC) all-conference selection, including Player of the Year in 1996 and a first team pick in 1997. She was also an all-Midwest Region first team selection in 1996 and 1997. Potter played on one HAAC regular season championship team, two HAAC Tournament championship teams and two Midwest Region qualifiers.

Potter still holds the career records for doubles and RBIs, and is listed in the top 10 in ten other offensive categories including batting average, hits, runs scored, triples and home runs. Also, walks, total bases, slugging percentage, stolen bases and sacrifices. Defensively, Potter ranks in the top 10 in assists and chances. She was inducted into the school’s Athletic Hall of Fame in 2007.

Potter earned a bachelor's degree in physical education and health from C-SC in 1998, and a master's degree in exercise science, physical education and health from Central Missouri State University in 2002. She served as a graduate assistant for CMSU's softball and volleyball teams, as well as teaching elementary physical education for the Warrensburg School District.
