Bio:
Thomas will enter his first season as the women's golf coach at Culver-Stockton College during the 2008-09 school year. He has served as the men's and women's soccer coach since 2004.
Prior to being named golf coach, Thomas served as the administrative director of the First Tee of Great River Program in Quincy (Ill.) for four years. While at First Tee, several pupils in the program went on to bigger things, including Luke Guthrie and Emily Powers, who each won consecutive individual Illinois high school state golf titles. Powers won her championships in 2004 and 2005, while Guthrie won in 2006 and 2007. Powers also qualified for the U.S. Women's Open in 2008.
The First Tee program helps create affordable and accessible golf facilities and instruction to youth who have not been exposed to the game.
Thomas is a native of Quincy, Ill., who starred in soccer at Quincy Notre Dame High School and Quincy University.
Thomas played professional soccer for 13 seasons and registered 660 points, including 407 goals in 388 career games. His goal total ranks 22nd among all-time indoor soccer goal leaders.
Thomas has competed with a number of National Professional Soccer League (NPSL) organizations during his pro indoor career, including the St. Louis Steamers, Kansas City Attack, Cleveland Crunch, Cincinnati Silverbacks, Florida Thundercats and Baltimore Blast. He also played parts of six seasons for the Sacramento Knights of the Continental Indoor Soccer League (CISL).
During his professional career, he founded "Goals for Kids," a foundation to help the Wind Youth Center for Underprivileged Children in Sacramento, Calif. He also received the Ronald McDonald Children's Charities Award for civic leadership and outstanding community service.
