Bio:
Steve Blocker was hired as the new cross country and track and field coach for both men and women on May 1, 2007.
Blocker comes to Culver-Stockton after having spent the 2006-07 season as an assistant coach at Santa Barbara City College in Santa Barbara, Calif., where he was in charge of designing and implementing the sprint, hurdle and jump training programs as well as the strength training programs for all events. Participation in the numbers of sprinters and jumpers quadrupled during his tenure at SBCC.
Blocker’s first coaching stop was at his alma mater, the University of Northern Iowa, where he served as a volunteer assistant while earning his master’s degree.
While at Northern Iowa, Blocker helped develop the 60m hurdle school record-holder and two Missouri Valley Conference all-conference 60m hurdlers. The Panthers also won the men’s indoor conference championship three times and the outdoor championship once.
As a student-athlete at Northern Iowa, Blocker was a member of three Missouri Valley Conference championship teams. He was a regional qualifier in the 110m hurdles in 2003 and named all-MVC in the 60m hurdles in 2002. In addition, he left UNI ranked fourth on the all-time performance list in the 110m hurdles, and third on the all-time list for the 60m hurdles.Blocker spent his first two years at St. Ambrose University in Davenport, Iowa, where he was an NAIA outdoor regional qualifier and placed 12th in the 55m hurdles at the NAIA Indoor Nationals in 2000.
Blocker obtained his bachelor’s degree in physical education from the University of Northern Iowa in 2003 and his master’s degree in physical education in 2006. He will also teach in the Culver-Stockton College physical education department.
Bio:
Erin Wessely joined the Culver-Stockton track and field team as an assistant coach in January 2008. She will coach the vertical jumps and multi events, and assist with the cross country program in the fall.
In addition to assisting the Culver-Stockton College program, Erin is also on the National Coaching Staff for the Women's Development in the pole vault. Her experience ranges from the high school level to the pole vaulting elite.
Erin was a two-time regional qualifier in the pole vault at the University of Kansas and a member of the Unites States team in Taiwan in 2006 where she placed third. She was also a regional qualifier in two seasons at the University of Northern Iowa.
At Northern Iowa, Erin is second on the all-time outdoor performance list in the pole vault. She is third on the all-time outdoor performance list at UNI and sixth all-time at KU.
Erin graduated with honors from the University of Kansas in 2005 with a bachelor of science degree in biology. While at Kansas, Erin was a two-time Jayhawk Scholar Athlete and, in 2005, was an All-Big 12 1st team All Academic selection.
