Virtually every high school within a 100-mile radius of Canton has track and field and cross country programs.
The track and field teams of Canton R-5 School District, which does not have a home track, also will use Culver-Stockton facilities.
The programs may revive the regional relays, which formerly brought 15 high school teams to campus to compete.
With establishment of the Culver-Stockton program, only one college in the Heart of America Athletic Conference will not have track and field and cross country programs.
The programs give other Culver-Stockton athletes the option to participate in complementary athletic programs, which has not been possible before.
Other Culver-Stockton athletes can use the track for interval and fitness training.
Other students, faculty, staff and local residents will use the track for recreational purposes.
