Bio:
Doug Savage took over the reins of the Wildcat track and field program in August 2010. In addition, Savage will also coach the receivers for the football team in the fall. He was appointed head cross country coach in November of 2011.
Savage, a native of Winchester, Ill., was most recently the head track and field coach at Quincy University (Ill.) where he coached a Great Lakes Valley Conference champion in the men’s shot put in 2001. Savage is USA Track and Field level 2 certified in sprints, hurdles and relays. While at Quincy, Savage also worked as an assistant football coach for four years coaching the offensive line, defensive backs and running backs during that tenure.
As a student-athlete, Savage attended Ottawa University (Kan.) where he participated in track and field, cross country and football. He earned Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference (KCAC) honors in track his senior season by finishing second in both the 110-meter high hurdles and the 400-meter intermediate hurdles.
After obtaining a bachelor’s degree in physical education and health from Ottawa in 1989, Savage, a three-sport letterwinner at Winchester High School, coached and taught at several secondary schools until being hired as a football coach at Quincy University in 1997.
