Tale of Two Halves for Lady Wildcats
Saturday, February 04, 2012

After playing arguably its worst half of the season in the first 20 minutes of its game with Peru State College on Saturday, the Culver-Stockton College women's team rebounded with perhaps its best half after the break to defeat the host Bobcats 63-58 in Peru, Neb.

The Lady Wildcats netted its smallest point total in any first half this season in falling behind 31-19 to the Bobcats. The 19 points was the fewest since C-SC netted 20 points in a victory at Missouri Valley on Jan. 26.

C-SC made just five of its 27 field goal attempts (18.5 percent) in the first half, including one of eight from beyond the 3-point arc. The Lady Wildcats stayed in the game by making eight of their 12 free throw attempts.

However, in the second half, it was a different story for the Lady Wildcats, who sizzled from the field at a clip of 61.9 percent (16 of 26). C-SC used a 27-12 run in the second half to take a 46-43 lead at one point in the second period.

Monica Wilson led the offensive surge with 14 points, including 11 in the decisive second half. She made four of her six 3-point attempts and both free throws.

Aneshia Starks added 11 points, eight rebounds and a game-high six steals. Jessie Logsdon totaled nine points, and Tromesa May and Rachel Larson chipped in with eight markers. May also had a game-high 11 rebounds, matching her Lady Wildcat career-high.

The Lady Wildcats, now 12-12 overall and 4-8 in the Heart of America Athletic Conference, will say on the road when they play at Benedictine College on Thursday, Feb. 9. Game time is 5:30 p.m. in Atchison, Kan.
