The DOCTOR of HUMANE LETTERS DEGREE,
Honoris Causa

Congratulations Class of 2008

Presented at the 152nd Commencement
Exercises of Culver-Stockton College

10 May 2008

In recognition of his lifelong pursuit of academic excellence and community service, Culver-Stockton College honors Donald M. Claycomb with the degree, Doctor of Humane Letters.

A self-avowed risk taker in the field of education, he has served academic institutions at the secondary, community college, and university levels. He has been on the faculty at Kansas State University and the University of Missouri-Columbia and served as executive director of the Missouri State Council on Vocational Education. For 15 years, he has been president of Linn State Technical College, elevating the institution in esteem and academic quality through new campus buildings, accreditation, and faculty development.

His commitment to academic excellence is not limited to any single institution. A consultant-evaluator for The Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association, he serves on its Accreditation Review Council. He also served as president of the Missouri Association of Adult Continuing and Community Education and the Missouri Association for Career and Technical Education.

Dr. Claycomb is equally dedicated to serving his community, with an extensive roster of organizations that have benefited from his support and leadership. Among them are the Boy Scouts of America, the Girl Scouts USA, the Rape and Abuse Crisis Service Board, the Missouri Head Injury Advisory Council, and his church's board of trustees.

Father of Culver-Stockton alumni, he has spent more than a decade in service to the college as a trustee. Fellow board members praise his wealth of experience, his unique perspective, his candor and especially his infectious humor.

It is in tribute to his exemplary leadership in Missouri higher education and community service, that we take great pleasure in conferring upon Donald M. Claycomb the degree Doctor of Humane Letters (honoris causa) on this 10th day of May 2008.
