Certifications, Endorsements and National Credentials

Earning your Bachelor of Science in education prepares you for a variety of teaching positions from kindergarten through secondary education, depending on your area of certification or endorsement.

Elementary Education

With a C-SC degree in elementary education you will be certified to teach grades 1-6. To receive teacher certification, students must earn a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 in their certification area.
Education Endorsements: 
Students may earn an endorsement in middle school education or early childhood education.

To complete an endorsement to teach Middle School,
C-SC elementary and secondary education majors must:

- Choose a teaching specialty for certification
- Complete certification requirements in either elementary or secondary education 

- Complete courses in Middle School Philosophy and Curriculum and Instruction
- Additional course work may be required in specific areas of concentration

To complete an endorsement to teach Early Childhood, C-SC elementary education majors must:
- Complete an elementary education major
- Additional coursework in the early childhood area

Physical Education

As physical education and/or health teachers, you can help create an awareness of the importance of physical activity, an understanding of how the human body works and an appreciation for athletic activities for all lifestyles.

Specialties offered include:
Health Certification - valid for teaching grades K-12; requires 35 hours of coursework that includes teaching methods, nutrition, anatomy and physiology, drug education, nutrition, abnormal psychology and sociology; students complete a practicum in a health setting

Sport Management

Prepare for a career in athletic directing, sports information, sports marketing, or recreational sports management with this unique Bachelor of Science degree.
Offered as part of the division’s Applied Arts programs, this degree program offers courses in sport administration, ethics and governance, event and facility managements, and legal issues. Students also pursue internships in sport management, working either in athletic directing, sport information directing, sport media, and/or in intramural administration. The sport management major can be easily paired with a minor in business.

Health Minor

Any C-SC student may minor in health except for physical education majors. To complete the health minor, students must complete 20 hours of coursework in physical education, health, biology and psychology.
