Math majors at Culver-Stockton can benefit from a variety of coursework and experiences that open a world of opportunity for them. You can pursue graduate training in mathematics or in a high technology field. Math teachers are badly needed and you can get your teaching certification at C-SC if you add on secondary education. If you're targeting a different career solution, such as business, you can combine mathematics with other majors and minors to become a specialist in demand. From classroom instruction to independent study, this program is committed to the development of a professional in the mathematics field.
Earning a bachelor's of science degree in mathematics requires completion of 32 hours of mathematics coursework. You can gain hands-on experience by taking a computer programming course or investigating number theory. Many of our students experience the real world through student teaching in the tri-state region or working as an intern at such places as Towers Perrin in Chicago or Dot Foods in Mount Sterling, Ill.
What can I do with this major?
This major provides sound preparation for graduate programs in mathematics, computer science and engineering. Recent graduates have gone on to graduate school at Iowa State University and the University of Iowa, become math teachers at Fort Zumwalt West High School or Troy-Buchanan (Mo.) High School, work as an actuarial assistant for the Principal Finance Group, or serve as assistant professor of statistics at North Carolina State University.
