When Tina Wiseman, a wife and mother of three, first stepped into Culver-Stockton College's financial aid office, she was looking for a chance to continue her education. She had worked as a manager at ShopKo Distribution Center in Quincy, Ill., for 15 years. The closing of the business marked a turning point in Wiseman's life, and she decided to continue her education by completing a bachelor's degree at Culver-Stockton College.

"Everything works out for a reason," says Wiseman, who was not only informed of her financial aid options, but also offered a job. She began working part-time in February of 2001, and was promoted to a full-time financial aid advisor two months later. As an employee, she enjoys the benefit of tuition-free college courses.

Wiseman and her husband, Martin, have three daughters: Marti Jo, Chevie and Dannicka. The family lives in Monticello, Mo., a small town neighboring Canton.

Wiseman says she enjoys living in a small town because of the safe environment and close-knit community. "Two neighbors tilled my garden for me!" she said.

Along with gardening, Wiseman enjoys watching her children play sports and reading. Her all-time favorite book is the romance novel, Sky O'Malley, by Beatrice Small. She listens to all kinds of music, including the country music band her brother sings in.

Wiseman was promoted to acting director of financial aid at Culver-Stockton on Dec. 1, 2003. Her advice to prospective students is to take college seriously. "Know what you are getting into," said Wiseman. "Loans are easy money to get, but the money must be paid back later."
