Lawrence Smith
Alumni Admissions Representative
Last spring, when Lawrence Smith '07 received his diploma from Culver-Stockton College and left for his new job in St. Louis, he figured he would only be back for the occasional visit. But Smith, who is a financial analyst for Verizon Wireless, was back on campus recently to sign-up as a C-SC volunteer "alumni admissions representative" for the St. Louis area.
"I can’t stay away from this place. It has given me too much not to give back," Smith said. "This is a chance for me to take Culver-Stockton to potential students, and share my experience about how I was accepted here, and how it helped me get where I am today."
As an alumni admissions representative, Smith will attend college fairs, visit St. Louis area high schools, participate in C-SC alumni events, and follow up with potential students.
"I’m delighted to have Lawrence as part of the Culver-Stockton team," said C-SC President William L. Fox. "He was an incredibly active student while here on campus. Everyone knew him, and he made a significant difference in other students’ lives. I know he will share that same energy and commitment with future students through this program."

Melik Peter Khoury, vice president for enrollment and college
marketing, and Lawrence Smith, alumni admissions representative.
Melik Peter Khoury, vice president for enrollment and college marketing, said the alumni rep program is part of the college’s student recruitment initiatives. "The Culver-Stockton experience is a unique story that is best told by someone who has experienced it personally," Khoury said. "This alumni focus will be key to extending our footprint and reaching prospective students who can benefit from the C-SC experience."
Smith, son of Adrienne and Sollie Smith of Sikeston, Mo., earned his bachelor of science degree with a double major in accounting and finance. While on campus, he was cofounder and president of the Black Student Union as well as a Health Outreach Peer Educator. In addition, he was a three-year varsity letter winner on the Wildcat football team, a member of the Greek Life Task Force, an instructor in the "Your Paycheck" program, a member of the second-place regional team for LEAP (Lead and Enhance the Accounting Program), and helped community members complete their tax returns last year as part of the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program. Smith also worked as a community assistant in the C-SC residence halls for three years.
"I miss the challenge of Culver-Stockton," Smith said. "There’s not too many other places you can be where you can say, ‘I can make a difference,’ or ‘I have made a difference.’"
