Ensembles:
Vocal ensembles at Culver-Stockton provide many opportunities for musical performance and development. In addition to providing valuable professional training for vocal music majors, they give the non-major a chance to perform and develop their voice in any of the following:
- Collegiate Choir
The Collegiate Choir is the Culver-Stockton College’s large non-auditioned ensemble and its membership includes students, faculty, and community members. The ensemble performs a variety of literature, but often performs major works with the Quincy Symphony, significant choral works with college instrumental ensembles, and performs the annual Pops Concert in the spring. It is the perfect ensemble for the avocational singer who wants to keep music as a part of their college and daily lives while performing excellent and fun literature.
- Concert Choir
The Concert Choir is the premier choral ensemble at Culver-Stockton College. Selected through a thorough audition process, the members of the group represent a variety of majors and previous experiences. The tie that binds this group together is their individual commitment to the pursuit of excellence in the performance of choral music. It is this dedication to excellence in choral performance that has led countless excellent singers to be a part of this group throughout its history and which has produced some of the region’s most accomplished and respected teachers. The group tours annually in the region and has been invited to perform at the state music convention several times over its history.
- Chamber Choir
The Chamber Choir is a smaller ensemble of 16 – 24 singers who are selected from the Concert Choir membership. Its focus is on literature that is suitable for smaller groups and upon vocal jazz. It is active in performances at alumni events, area churches, and college functions.
- Opera Workshop
The Opera Workshop provides the serious vocal students with the opportunity to perform chamber operas, learn stage production techniques, and develop acting skills.
