Mabee Foundation Challenge
Campaign success for future Recreation & Wellness Center at C-SC
Well ahead of the April 9 deadline, Culver-Stockton College is pleased to announce it has met the Mabee Foundation project completion challenge to attain a grant for construction of a Recreation and Wellness Center on campus. The Mabee Foundation of Tulsa, Okla., challenged the College to raise $2.8 million of the $3.5 million project goal, agreeing to contribute the remaining $700,000 upon the College raising its portion.
Support toward meeting this challenge was received nationwide from alumni and friends, with significant gifts coming from individuals, businesses and foundations within the Tri-State area. This campaign was also enhanced by two significant gift challenges presented by College Trustees, which ultimately led to an earlier than anticipated announcement of campaign success. An additional gift from a Trustee Emeritus was also instrumental in completing the challenge.
In celebration of meeting the fundraising goal, the College is having an official groundbreaking ceremony, Thursday, March 27 at 11:30 a.m., south of the current Activity and Recreation Center. College President Richard Valentine, Board Chair and National Campaign Chair Ron Leftwich, and Regional Campaign Chair Chuck Scholz begin the event by shoveling dirt as the first step toward the center’s construction. Fulltime construction begins later this summer. The Recreation and Wellness Center is the capstone project of the College’s comprehensive campaign, “A Vision for Our Future,” which runs through June 30, 2014.
