Facilities

Science Center

The Science Center, which opened for classes in 2002, is Culver-Stockton College's newest academic building. The facility houses the college's science, mathematics and computer information systems academic departments. The Science Center features the Carolyn L. Brown Lecture Hall, a computer lab, several science laboratories, classrooms and faculty offices.

Laboratories

The Science Center houses teaching labs for athletic training, biology, physiology, microbiology, molecular biology, chemistry and the physical sciences. In addition, there is a student research lab and a student computer lab.

Astronomy Observation Deck

Atop the three-story Science Center is the John A. Sperry Jr. Astronomical Observation Platform, which offers a clear view of the night skies.

DNA Sequencer
Through matching grant funding, C-SC has added a state-of-the-art DNA sequencer package to the Science Center. The package allows students to conduct research that requires DNA sequencing of single stranded, double stranded or polymerase chain reaction products.

Microscopes

State-of-the-art binocular compound microscopes are available for students. The microscopes have a magnification of 1000x and a range of lenses that will allow for a broad range of uses, from slides of animal and plant tissue to slides of microorganisms.

Specialized Equipment
Other laboratory equipment includes Bacti-incinerators to sterilize microbiological instruments; a Tuttenhauer Autoclave to sterilize objects in microbiology and molecular science labs; a Bio-Rad Thermal Cycler to perform polymerase chain reaction procedures in genetics and cell biology courses; and a Varian FTIR spectrometer for use in analytic chemistry labs.

Reis Biological Station - read more
Culver-Stockton College is part of the Reis Biological Station Consortium of colleges and universities formed to promote biological research and education in the Ozarks.

The station is contained within one of the seven subdivisions of the 1.5 million acre Mark Twain National Forest, which provides a diversity of ecosystems for study including short leaf pine forests, calcareous fens, glades, caves, springs, ponds, rivers and reservoirs.
