Pillars for Excellence Scholarship Competition
Only the best high school students are invited to compete each year for this full-tuition merit scholarship awarded to just a handful of freshmen who have been admitted for the fall semester at Culver-Stockton College.
Stringent academic standards are required. To be eligible, students must have at least a 26 ACT score and at least a 3.6 high school GPA (on a 4.0 scale). All Pillars for Excellence candidates must have applied to and been accepted by Culver-Stockton College to compete.
Pillars for Excellence Scholarships can be renewed annually at the value of the student's freshman year if the student maintains a 3.2 GPA at Culver-Stockton.
In addition to academic excellence, students must compete for the scholarship during a special program in February. On competition day, faculty, alumni and former Pillars winners interview the candidates. Students also must write an essay responding to a question asked of all competitors. Both the essay and interview requirements must be completed during the competition program.
The Pillars for Excellence Scholarship recipients are ineligible for additional institutional scholarships or awards throughout their career at Culver-Stockton.
Pillars for Excellence candidates who compete but who are not selected for this scholarship are eligible for other merit scholarships.
Pillars recipients can automatically be enrolled in Honors English rather than the general course. If not selected for the scholarship, a Pillars candidate can list a preference for Honors English. Students who express this preference and who have early confirmation (i.e. paid the $200 admissions deposit) will get priority placement in the course until it is full.
