Five C-SC Basketball Players Named All-Conference

Culver-Stockton College placed five players, two men and three women, on the 2003-04 Heart of America Athletic Conference (HAAC) All-Conference team, the league announced on Monday.
Named from the men's team were senior Ryan Birch (first team) and junior Tony Gavin (honorable mention). Named from the women's team were senior Miranda Lipper(second team), junior Amber Dailing (third team) and senior Brooke Ludwig(honorable mention).
Birch, a 6-foot-6 center from Griggsville, Ill. (Griggsville-Perry HS / MacMurray College), was second in the league in scoring (18.6 ppg), third in rebounding (7.4 rpg) and third in field goal percentage (53.8 percent / 225-418) this season. He totaled 557 points during the regular season, which is the fifth highest single-season effort in school history, and his 225 field goals made are also the fifth highest single-season total in school history.
In addition, he made 40 percent (28-70) of his attempts from behind the three-point arc and 69.3 percent (79-114) of his free throw attempts, good for 14th in the league. Birch was twice named the HAAC Player of the Week this season.
Gavin, a 6-foot-2 guard from Rochester, Ill. (Rochester HS), was 11th in the league in scoring (13.6 ppg), fourth in steals (2.2 spg), sixth in assists (3.9 apg) and seventh in field goal percentage (44.1 percent / 156-354). His 67 steals is the fourth-highest single-season mark in school history. He also averaged 4.6 rebounds per game. In addition, Gavin became the 33rd player in school history to reach the 1,000-point mark in a career. He currently stands in 28th place on the all-time scoring list with 1,077 career points.
Lipper, a 5-foot-8 guard from Revere, Mo. (Revere HS), led the HAAC in both assists (4.6 apg) and steals (3.5 spg) this season. She averaged 8.3 points per game and was eighth in the HAAC in rebounding, averaging 6.8 caroms per game. Lipper also tied for team honors with 10 blocked shots this season.
Dailing, a 5-foot-10 forward from Brashear, Mo. (Brashear HS / John Wood CC), led the Lady Wildcats in scoring, averaging 11.3 points per game. She was sixth in the HAAC in three-point field goal percentage (34.7 / 51-147) and her 51 treys ties for the fourth highest total in a single-season in school history. She also averaged 4.4 rebounds and 1.4 steals per game.
Ludwig, a 6-foot center from Monroe City, Mo. (Monroe City HS), averaged 11.1 points and 5.3 rebounds per game this season. She tied for a team-best (with Lipper) in blocked shots with 10.
The Wildcats and Lady Wildcats are both seeded seventh in their respective conference tournaments, which begin this week. The men will play second-seeded William Jewell College on Wednesday, Feb. 25, while the women will play MidAmerica Nazarene University on Thursday, Feb. 26. Both games are scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
