Gallery to Display Work by Lindenwood Art Faculty Through Nov. 11
Thursday, October 21, 2004

Mabee Gallery at Culver-Stockton College will feature paintings, photography, computer graphics and ceramics by Lindenwood University’s art faculty. The exhibit will begin on Thursday, Oct. 21, with an opening reception at 7 p.m., followed by a gallery talk at 7:30 p.m. The gallery show will run through Thursday, Nov. 11, and is free and open to the public.

Jon Hargate, instructor of painting, design, color theory, drawing and figure drawing, will exhibit ceramic teapots, bowls and abstract paintings. Hargate has been a part of Lindenwood University since 1983, instructing three-dimensional design, intaglio and relief printmaking, advanced ceramics and art history. He has appeared in many exhibitions throughout the Midwest, including the St. Louis area, Illinois, Indiana and Ohio, as well as New York, France and Japan. Hargate received an associate in arts degree from Meramec Community College in St. Louis, Mo., a bachelor of fine arts degree with a drawing major and ceramics minor from Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville and a master of fine arts in painting degree from the University of Cincinnati.

Sandra Burke will feature photography in black and white. Burke is a full-time instructor of drawing, graphics and photography. She has been featured in many exhibitions throughout Missouri and has won top awards for her work. She graduated from Texas Women’s University with a bachelor of science degree in dietetics and a minor in chemistry. Burke also earned a master of arts degree in ceramics and photography and a master of fine arts degree in studio art from Lindenwood University.

John Troy, associate professor of art and studio art, will display oil paintings and monoprints. Troy received a bachelor of fine arts in painting and graphic communication from Washington University School of Fine Arts in St. Louis, Mo., and a master of fine arts degree in painting from Tyler School of Art at Temple University. Throughout the years, Troy has been featured in exhibitions in the St. Louis area, New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania. Troy is also a scenic artist for the Municipal Theatre of St. Louis during its summer theater seasons.

Scott Smith will feature still life studies in drawing and painting. Smith joined the staff at Lindenwood University in 2004 and is currently a lecturer in two-dimensional design. Smith received a bachelor of science degree in finance and a bachelor of fine arts degree in painting from University of Oregon, and a master in fine arts degree in painting from Cornell University. He also attended Yale/Norfolk School of Music and Arts at Yale University and Queens College Summer Program at Caumsett. He has appeared in gallery exhibits in New York, California and Oregon.

Darren Collier will present computer-generated graphic designs. Collier is a graduate of Lindenwood University, with bachelor of arts, master of arts and master of fine arts degrees in graphic design. He is currently a full-time instructor at Lindenwood University.
