The first class, held Tuesday night in Johnson Hall, was taught by C-SC students Emily Hogan and Jo Kincaid. Joining Clark and Fox for the opening were Dave Riney, manager of the Canton County Market, and four teen-aged employees of the business. Paycheck Partnership is a home-grown initiative that uses college student volunteers to teach financial management skills to high school students. This week the Partners began offering “Your Paycheck,” a two-hour financial literacy class for working teen-agers. C-SC and Quincy University students have been trained at the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis to teach the class, which helps teen-agers understand their paychecks, use credit wisely and reach their financial goals through planning and saving. The Quincy Area Chamber of Commerce is providing administrative support for the program and County Market, The Quincy Herald-Whig, Media Development and other businesses are encouraging young employees to attend the class. “Your Paycheck” came about as part of an initiative by the U.S. Conference of Mayors asking cities across the country to promote financial education through the National Dollar Wi$e Program. Several members of the C-SC Institute of Management Accountants Student Chapter attended a training session for the “Your Paycheck” program at the Federal Reserve Bank in St. Louis. Students attending were Anna Pfeiffer, Caty Kite, Cody Baggett, Emily Hogan, Jennifer McReynolds, Jo Kincaid, Kelsey Likes, Maggie Georges, Melinda Schneider and Teresa Edstrohm. Dell Ann Janney, professor of accounting, and Nicole Barkley, coordinator of Career/Internship Center, accompanied the students and serve as campus contacts for the Paycheck Program. As part of the day, C-SC students were addressed by Federal Reserve President William Poole and paired with a staff member from the Federal Reserve for a lunch discussion. In addition to the training session, the students also toured the Federal Reserve Bank. The program was organized by Jill Dorries, bank and government relations coordinator for the St. Louis Fed. As part of the tour, students were shown a variety of departments at the bank including the executive floor and boardroom as well as the vault and money handling area. OTHER FEATURED ARTICLES
