Richeson track is named in honor of Sharon Richeson Kennedy and the Richeson family of Rothville, Mo. Richeson was present for the ceremony, along with her husband, William Kennedy, Sr., a former director of advancement at C-SC, and her son, William Kennedy, Jr., a current member of the C-SC Board of Trustees. Culver-Stockton President William L. Fox thanked the many people and businesses that helped make the completion of the track possible. He also talked of the opportunities the track will provide for C-SC students, faculty and staff and the surrounding community. Also speaking during the ceremony were William Kennedy, Jr., Culver-Stockton Athletic Director Rod Walton, Culver-Stockton track coach Steve Blocker, Culver-Stockton track athlete Claire McKee, Canton R-V Superintendent David Tramel, Canton Mayor Joe Clark and Greg Hull, a consultant to the project and former U.S. Olympic track and field coach. During the ceremony, two Culver-Stockton track athletes ran to break the “tape” at the finish line to officially cut the ribbon on the new track. Then about a dozen faculty, staff, students and community members took a ceremonial first lap around the track. Funds for the new track and corresponding construction on Poulton Stadium were raised through gifts from individuals and foundations. Defargo Sports Surfaces of Austin, Texas, installed the main surface, and Bleigh Construction of Hannibal, Mo., prepared the concrete and asphalt underneath the main surface and the surrounding retaining wall. The track will serve not only the Wildcat track and field program but also the Canton R-V High school track and field team. It will also be utilized by other C-SC athletic teams for training and provide the campus and local residents a place for recreation and fitness. OTHER FEATURED ARTICLES
