C-SC student interning at The Kennedy Center
Thursday, December 13, 2007
Culver-Stockton College student Bethany Shannon will let her arts management talents shine as an intern at The John F. Kennedy Center for Performing Arts in the Theatre for Young Audiences Program in Washington, D.C., from January 15 through May 9. The Kennedy Center only accepts about 20 interns every semester.
“The Theatre for Young Audiences Program commissions brand new never-before-seen works every year,” said Shannon, who is from Marshall, Mo. "My duties will include sales analysis, budgeting, "Playbill," production meetings, technical rehearsals, artist hospitality, and several other areas in the department.”
Shannon said her teacher, Kent Miller, associate professor of theatre and technical director, suggested that she look into the program. The application process included a written application, reference letters, and a phone interview.
Shannon, who will graduate in May 2008 with a bachelor of fine arts degree in arts management, previously completed an internship at the Arrow Rock Lyceum Theatre in Arrow Rock, Mo.
“Everyone at Culver-Stockton has been so supportive and has shown the same excitement as my family,” Shannon said.
While a Culver-Stockton student, Shannon has performed as the Narrator in “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat,” Elma in “Bus Stop,” and Madame Pace in “Six Characters in Search of an Author.” She has been selected twice to audition for the Irene Ryan Acting Scholarships at the Region 5 festivals of the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival for her performances in “Six Characters in Search of an Author” in 2006 and “Bus Stop” in 2007.
“I am really excited for this internship opportunity. It is the perfect time to further explore my interests and make a career out of it,” added Shannon.
