Quincy Symphony Orchestra wraps up season at C-SC
Tuesday, April 08, 2008

CANTON, Mo. – The Quincy Symphony Orchestra Association will bring the final concert of its 60th anniversary season to the Culver-Stockton College campus at 3 p.m., Sunday, April 20, in the Performing Arts Center.

Entitled “Brahms, Beck, and Bruckner,” the concert features the works of those three composers-including the world premiere of Beck’s Majestic River. Beck began his musical career by learning to play the cello in the Quincy Public Schools. A graduate of Quincy High School, Beck has received numerous awards and has had his work performed by such groups as the New York City Opera, American Composers Orchestra, and the Chamber Orchestra of Boston.

Other works in the April 20 concert at C-SC include Bruckner’s Te Deum and Brahms’ Symphony No. 1. Featured performers will be the Quincy Symphony Orchestra, Quincy Symphony Chorus, Quincy University Concert Choir, Culver-Stockton College Collegiate Choir, and vocal soloists: Carol Mathieson, soprano; Phyllis Robertson, alto; Terry Chasteen, tenor; and Ron Witzke, bass.

The concert is sponsored by State Street Bank, Gardner Denver, and WGEM. The concert is partially funded by grants from the Community Foundation of the Quincy Area’s Paul H. and Anne B. Gardner Memorial Fund and Katherine Broemmel Endowment for the Arts, and from the Illinois Arts Council, a state agency.
