Fine Arts faculty member to help lead regional theatre festival
Monday, October 20, 2008

CANTON, Mo. – Haidee Heaton, Culver-Stockton College associate professor of theatre, has been invited to join the Region V Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival (KCACTF) management team.

KCACTF is a national theatre program involving 18,000 students from colleges and universities nationwide that has served as a catalyst in improving the quality of college theatre in the United States. It has grown into a network of more than 600 academic institutions where theatre departments and student artists showcase their work and receive outside assessment by KCACTF respondents. Region V includes institutions in Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, and South Dakota.

As a member of the festival’s management team, Heaton will be the coordinator of the alternate forms writing workshop, which is one of the late-night feature events at the annual regional festival. Students apply in advance to participate in the workshop and then spend significant time during the festival writing and rehearsing alternate forms performances to premier at one of the night sessions later in the week.

“We are very proud to have her represent the theatre department, division of fine arts, and Culver-Stockton College in our seven-state region,” said Jeff Kellogg, associate professor of theatre and department liaison to KCACTF Region V.

The KCACTF 41 Region V Festival will be held on the campus of the University of Kansas in Lawrence, Kan., January 19-24, 2009.
