C-SC to hold Pillars for Excellence scholarship competition
Thursday, January 15, 2009
CANTON, Mo. – Culver-Stockton College will host a scholarship competition Saturday, February 7. The Pillars for Excellence Scholarship competition allows high school students to compete for full-tuition scholarships to attend C-SC.
To be eligible to compete, prospective students must be accepted for admission to C-SC by January 23 and meet the required academic standards: a minimum score of 26 on the ACT or a score of 1120 on the SAT and a 3.6 grade point average in high school.
During the daylong competition, each candidate will write a timed essay and be interviewed by panels of C-SC faculty, staff, alumni, and current students who received the Pillars scholarship.
“We value academic excellence above all at Culver-Stockton,” said President William L. Fox. “These students have achieved academic success during high school and show great promise to be successful college students. We look forward to welcoming many of them to campus next fall.”
“The Pillars scholars will be the foundation for a high-caliber freshmen class for fall 2009,” said R. Joseph Dieker, vice president for academic affairs and dean of the college. “Such students not only become our campus leaders but also enhance the classroom experience.”
Pillars for Excellence Scholarships pay all tuition costs and can be renewed annually at the value of the freshman year if the student maintains a 3.2 grade point average at Culver-Stockton. Students selected for the Pillars for Excellence Scholarships will be announced in March. Although only a few Pillars scholars will be selected, students who compete may be selected for other Culver-Stockton scholarships.
