Yellow Ribbon Criteria & Details

CANTON, Mo. – Culver-Stockton College has become a participant in the Yellow Ribbon GI Education Enhancement Program to help veterans pursue a college degree.

Under the Yellow Ribbon Program, the government matches the amount of financial aid pledged by the college to students who have completed military service since 2001.

“Culver-Stockton has had a history of helping veterans earn their degree,” said C-SC President Richard Valentine. “During the 1970s, our bootstrappers program helped hundreds of soldiers and airmen complete their bachelor’s degrees. We are pleased to be involved in the Yellow Ribbon program to help today’s veterans pursue an education.”

Yellow Ribbon participants can receive up to $3,000 from Culver-Stockton. C-SC will award up to 20 Yellow Ribbon grants each year to veterans who have been approved by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. The Yellow Ribbon grant may be in addition to other C-SC financial aid for which the student meets the criteria. Currently, two C-SC students participate in the Yellow Ribbon program, which was launched in August.

To meet federal qualifications for the Yellow Ribbon program, veterans must have served an aggregate period of at least 36 months of active duty or have been honorably discharged from active duty for a service-connected disability after September 10, 2001. The VA also may provide a housing allowance and a stipend for books and supplies. To participate, veterans must apply to the VA. Full details about eligibility and benefits are available on the VA website at www.todaysgibill.net/.
