Guest artist production produces two more Irene Ryan nominations for C-SC

CANTON, Mo. – Two more Culver-Stockton College students have been nominated to compete for the Irene Ryan Acting Scholarship at the Kennedy Center for American College Theatre Festival (KCACTF), following their performances in C-SC’s 24th annual guest artist production of The Boys Next Door.
The Boys Next Door explores the lives for four mentally challenged men living in a group home and their social worker. Patrick Parsons, junior criminal justice major/theatre minor from Memphis, Mo., was nominated for his portrayal of Norman Bulansky. In the play, Norman, who is mentally handicapped, works in a donut shop and takes enormous pride in the giant bundle of keys that he wears around his waist.
Kathy Holstein, freshman theatre major from Branson, Mo., was nominated for her role as Sheila, a mentally challenged woman from a group home who Norman often meets at the weekly Wednesday night dance.
Parsons and Holstein will join seven other C-SC students in competing for the Irene Ryan Scholarship: Beau Becraft, junior communications major from Memphis, Mo.; Zach Martin, senior arts management major from Decatur, Ill.; Nick Johnson, freshman theatre major from Fieldon, Ill.; Jerica Exum, junior arts management major from Chicago, Ill.; Whitney Colston, junior musical theatre major from Neosho, Mo.; Travis Dahlhauser, junior speech and theatre education major from Rockford, Ill.; and Nicole Herrington (Class of 2009), history and theatre major from Quincy, Ill.
The Irene Ryan Acting Competition will be held during the 42nd Annual Region V KCACTF, hosted by Johnson County Community College in Overland Park, Kan., from January 17-20, 2010.
