C-SC alum added to Quincy Area Chamber of Commerce Business Hall of Fame

CANTON, Mo. – Don Gnuse ’56, former chairman of the board of trustees at Culver-Stockton College, will be inducted into the Quincy Area Chamber of Commerce Business Hall of Fame for his work in the banking business.

Gnuse majored in business administration and was a member of Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity at C-SC. He is currently the chairman of the board of First Bankers Trustshares, Inc., First Bankers Trust Company, N.A., and First Bankers Trust Services. He has been with the First Bankers Trust Company since 1956 when he started as a customer service representative. He was later named marketing director and in 1970 became president, a position he held until 2002. During Gnuse’s tenure three new branches of the bank were built. He also initiated the founding of the holding company, First Bankers Trustshares, Inc. and its affiliate, Trust Company.

Gnuse has also been an active member in several organizations including: the Junior Achievement Program, Kiwanis, United way, and the Salvation Army. He has also served on several boards in addition to C-SC ,which include: Blessing Rieman College of Nursing, the Lindsey Church Home, Community Investment Limited, John Wood Community College, Good Samaritan Home and St. John’s Episcopal Church, among others.
Gnuse was awarded the 50 Years in Banking Award in 2006 from the Illinois and Missouri Bankers Associations. In 2008, Culver-Stockton College honored him with a Doctor of Humane Letters. He has also received the Distinguished Citizen Award from the Missouri Valley Council of the Boy Scouts of America.

An induction ceremony to the Quincy Area Chamber of Commerce Business Hall of Fame will be held on January 22, at The Ambience., in Quincy, Ill.
