The book was done in conjunction with the required field experience of weekly interaction with a struggling reader. “Technology is the name of the game today, so it only made sense for us to make phonological and phonemic awareness more engaging and child-centered by putting together many digital resources that help teachers of reading set the stage for kids' success in a critical skills area,” said Terry Sherer, associate professor of education and division chair of education and applied arts. “Our book was limited by time, but the students put together what, I think, is an immensely useful and engaging compendium that assists teachers and kids in building words and vocabulary through a medium with which they are enthralled.” “The great thing with the book is the resources are digital which brings the importance of technology in education,” said Arif Dagin, senior elementary education major from Hannibal, Mo. “Integrating digital resources into our curriculum will keep us one step ahead in teaching phonics and I definitely suggest this book to teacher candidates and teachers." A copy of the book will be given to each student in the class, added to the curriculum library and anyone who would like to purchase one. An online copy may also be made available.
