C-SC alum leaves $171,000 for scholarship use
Thursday, January 28, 2010

CANTON, Mo. – Culver-Stockton College President Richard Valentine was presented with a check from Attorney Dennis Smith this week in the amount of $171,000 from the estate of Mrs. Ann A. (Steffen) Winkelman, class of 1933. The gift has been designated for student scholarships and added to The Charles and Ann Winkelman Endowed Scholarship, which Ann established during her lifetime. The Charles and Ann Winkelman Endowed Scholarship was originally established to memorialize her husband, Charles.

Winkelman, who passed away January 10, 2008, was a teacher in Steffenville, Mo., and La Belle, Mo., schools prior to marriage. She was a member of the Canton Christian Church and a strong supporter of C-SC.

“Ann cared deeply about her alma mater in many ways, and in particular, enjoyed the opportunity to help a new generation of students by supporting the scholarship program at Culver-Stockton College,” said Eric Barkley, director of advancement and alumni programs. “This tremendous gift will impact our students greatly and will further Ann’s wonderful legacy on the Hill. Our community of learning is most grateful.”

“This generosity is a true reflection of Ann’s character and spirit,” added President Valentine. “These scholarships will open many doors and opportunities for our students. What a wonderful way to be remembered. We are extremely appreciative of Ann’s support.”
