C-SC Greeks receive national recognition
Thursday, February 18, 2010

CANTON, Mo. – The Interfraternity and Panhellenic Councils of Culver-Stockton College attended a conference hosted by the Association of Fraternal Leadership and Values (AFLV) February 11 through 14 in St. Louis, Mo. A portion of the convention is dedicated to recognizing outstanding programming efforts of university and college fraternity and sorority communities from across the United States and Canada. C-SC’s councils received the top awards in their respective divisions.

A special committee composed of college and university student affairs administrators from across the country judge each of the awards presented at the convention. Over 350 colleges and universities belong to the association and the AFLV Central Region convention is held annually with over 2,000 attendees.

For the first time, the Culver-Stockton College Interfraternity and Panhellenic Councils brought home the top awards in their division for outstanding council programming. Award divisions are based upon the number of fraternity and sorority chapters within each college or university campus community.

The Panhellenic Council brought home the Sutherland Award recognizing the best programming by a sorority community and the Interfraternity Council was awarded the Jellison Award for the top programming by a fraternity community. The other college and university competitors in the division one awards category included Missouri University of Science and Technology, Ohio Northern University, University of South Dakota, University of New Mexico, Baldwin-Wallace College and Grand Valley State University.

Along with winning the two most outstanding awards, the Panhellenic Council and the Interfraternity Council received thirteen individual program awards falling within eight overall programming categories. The following programming areas were awarded to Culver-Stockton College’s IFC & Panhellenic Councils: academic achievement, council management, leadership and educational development, membership recruitment, public relations, risk reduction and management, and self-governance and judicial affairs.

A delegation of four C-SC students representing the Interfraternity and Panhellenic executive boards attended the conference, including Aaron Fieseler, senior finance major from Bowling Green, Mo.; Amanda Eisele, junior arts management major from Mexico, Mo.; Kat Patrick, sophomore arts management major from Grant City, Mo.; and Lance Smith, junior history education major from Memphis, Mo. The students spent the weekend at the AFLV annual meeting attending workshops and keynote speakers on topics covering all aspects of fraternity and sorority life.
