Culver-Stockton College to present musical: The Robber Bridegroom
Monday, March 29, 2010

CANTON, Mo. – Culver-Stockton College’s theatre department will perform The Robber Bridegroom in the Mabee Little Theatre on Thursday, April 8, through Sunday, April 11. The Robber Bridegroom is a musical with a book and lyrics written by Alfred Uhry and music by Robert Waldman. The story is based on a 1942 novella by Eudora Welty.

"The Robber Bridegroom is a show that relies heavily on the creative energy and collaboration of the entire company,” says Jeff Kellogg, C-SC lecturer in theatre and director of the musical. “The people are the story, they have come together for a good time and they take the audience along with them.”

As the show unfolds, the audience is introduced to a gentleman robber played by Travis Dahlhauser, a rich planter played by Zach Martin, his lovely daughter played by Kathy Holstein, a wicked stepmother played by Whitney Colston, and a selection of other oddballs. Woven into their tale are romance, mistaken identity, shady business deals, stolen love, and a murder or two.

“The most intriguing and visually appealing moments involve the cast moving various boxes, crates, and planks around the theatre to create the different locations,” says Kellogg. “This combination of song, dance and scene change has given the cast a chance to experience collaboration and devised theatre at a whole new level."

The Robber Bridegroom will be performed at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, April 8, through Saturday, April 10, and at 3 p.m. on Sunday, April 11 in the Mabee Little Theatre. Ticket prices are $8 for adults, $6 for non-C-SC students, and $5 for C-SC students, faculty, and staff.
