Alumni giving soars at Culver-Stockton College
Friday, July 16, 2010

CANTON, Mo. – Despite the economic challenges of the past year, Culver-Stockton College announced today that the college had met and exceeded this year’s fund-raising goals in more ways than one. The college’s total giving, which includes alumni, friends and other constituents increased 18 percent over last year, totaling $2.4 million. In the alumni only category, overall giving this year soared, increasing 45 percent. The money raised will help Culver-Stockton support college operational costs, student scholarships, development of future educational programs, and needed upgrades in technology and campus improvements.

“Making an investment in C-SC is important to me,” said Jason Stratton, President/CEO of Advance Physical Therapy and Sports Medicine and one of the many supporters who gave back to their alma mater this year. “Many of us who have graduated from C-SC want to provide the same opportunities for students that we were given. I want to make a difference in someone else’s life, just the way past donors did for me."

In addition to the successful overall fund-raising this year, C-SC’s Annual Fund Drive exceeded its goal as well raising over $1.2 million dollars for 2009-2010. A key component of the successful campaign was the increase in alumni who participated by giving to the college. Alumni giving alone to the Annual Fund Drive resulted in a 29 percent increase in terms of dollars.

“We are so thankful for the strong support we receive from our alumni, friends and families. Culver-Stockton has changed the lives of so many,” said President Richard Valentine. “It is an amazing thing to receive such generosity from those who want to give something back to their college—the place where they gained direction in life, friendships and the ability to contribute so much to their communities.”

This year’s fund-raising included a multi-tiered approach to sharing the college’s needs and goals with alumni and friends. The Office of Alumni and Advancement produced communications that went in direct mail brochures, newsletters, calls and e-mail campaigns. The college also hosted 32 “Meet the President” programs in various locations around the nation. Nearly 1,800 people attended this series learning more about Culver-Stockton’s plans for the future.
