Tuesday, August 24, 2010

CANTON, Mo. – Brice Fantazia ‘09, is being recognized for his hard work on the hardwood. Fantazia, who recently signed-on to play basketball professionally in Scotland, is being honored by his California high school. Modesto Christian School, Modesto, Calif., will be hanging one of Fantazia’s professional jerseys, and his Culver-Stockton College jersey on the school walls for all to see. “Modesto Christian is one of the most prestigious schools in the nation for basketball, so this is a huge honor,” said Fantazia.

Before joining Scotland’s Glasgow Rocks basketball roster, Fantazia played professionally for FC Porto Ferpinta in Porto, Portugal. His jersey from Porto Ferpinta will be hung in the Modesto high school gymnasium, his Culver-Stockton jersey will be hung in the foyer.

“A few years ago we started honoring our basketball players who move on to play college basketball. We have several players who are currently playing, or who have played, pro ball in Europe. We currently have 10 Division I jerseys, five European jerseys and one NBA jersey, along with 25+ NAIA and Division II jerseys. Brice was a big part of one of our state championship basketball teams. He played a key role in helping us win that title; he was a hard working player,” said Gary Foyer, head coach for the Modesto Christian School basketball team.

In two seasons at Culver-Stockton, after transferring from North Central Junior College in Trenton, Mo., Fantazia averaged 13 points, 3.9 rebounds and 3.9 assists in 58 games. He scored a career-high 35 points in his final game against NAIA national semifinalist and conference champion MidAmerica Nazarene on February 28, 2009.
