“On behalf of the faculty and staff of the Education/Applied Arts division, we want to say congratulations to one of our own. We are proud to be Aron’s colleague and just as proud that she is a member of the Culver-Stockton community of teachers,” said Ann Hammer, division chair of Education and Applied Arts. The NAGWS Pathfinder Awards were established in 1991 to provide national recognition to women who have demonstrated continuous dedication to the advocacy, recruitment and enhancement of girls and women in sports and sport leadership in their states. Each state association represented in AAHPERD has the opportunity to select a recipient to be recognized nationally as a Pathfinder. Since the inception of the award, more than 575 women have been named NAGWS Pathfinders. This auspicious award continues to honor women who have dedicated their lives to girls and women in sport. “Being an active member of MOAHPERD has changed and shaped how I view my professional career so much,” says Potter. “Until I became an active member, I never realized how many people you can educate on the benefits of ‘quality’ physical education and sport when you have a platform to stand on. The NAGWS Missouri Pathfinder award is very humbling for me because some of the great Missouri female educators who are my mentors have been prior recipients. Dr. Millie Barnes, Dr. Joyce Bailey and Dr. Peggy Martin, just to name a few, have impacted my life. And to be in the same category as those great ladies is very humbling. They have all taught me to be a strong and passionate teacher and coach and to always walk with pride and passion each day so you can pass on the love of sport and the value of education to the next generation,” Potter adds. The Pathfinder awards will be presented during the NAGWS Rachel Bryant Lecture and Awards Session at the annual AAHPERD National Convention. OTHER FEATURED ARTICLES
