C-SC and American Chemical Society to present “Deterministic Chaos” talk
Wednesday, October 13, 2010
CANTON, Mo. – The Culver-Stockton College Department of Science and the American Chemical Society are joining together on Friday, Oct. 22 to present a talk by Dr. Richard Field from the University of Montana. He will be discussing “Deterministic Chaos” at 7:30 p.m. in the C-SC Science Center, room 208.
Dr. Field will be presenting why some things that appear to be random are not. He will start out with basic dynamics like the flight of a projectile and then define and illustrate the more advanced concepts geometrically. Within the discussion, he will address topics such as trajectories, attractors, limit cycles and bifurcations. Dr. Field will also be using experimental examples throughout his presentation.
The event is free and open to the public and is part of C-SC’s Academic and Cultural Events (ACE) program. Questions can be directed toward Dr. Mohamed El-Bermawy, C-SC professor of chemistry and biology, via telephone at (573)288-6344 or via e-mail at melbermawy@culver.edu.
