C-SC receives $250,000 grant
Friday, February 04, 2011

CANTON, Mo. -- Culver-Stockton College President Richard Valentine announced today that the Fred C. and Katherine B. Andersen Foundation of Bayport, Minn., has awarded the college a generous grant in the amount of $250,000. This grant is an investment in the college’s ongoing mission to provide students of promise with a superb education, and marks the 16th consecutive year the foundation has partnered with C-SC.

“As a private and self-sustaining institution of higher learning, Culver-Stockton does not seek nor accept federal or state grants or loans of any type,” said Valentine. “In addition to the visible qualities of our college, the Andersen Foundation both recognizes and appreciates our commitment to provide a tremendous experience for students without the financial support of governmental related entities. We deeply value their support and admire the impact it is having on the lives of our students today.”

The receipt of this major grant builds upon the momentum at C-SC. Valentine went on to say that the college’s faculty and staff have shared their own personal resources to support the work happening throughout the campus community. “I am excited about and deeply appreciative of the gifts our faculty and staff have made to C-SC; 96 percent of our college team has made a financial gift to support the good work on this campus. This speaks volumes as to the dedication and commitment our faculty and staff have to student success. I don’t know of any college in the country that can boast this kind of support from its employees.”

Culver-Stockton College is coming off one of its strongest years of student recruitment and alumni and friend gift support. New student enrollment was up 26 percent last fall and charitable gift receipts were up 18 percent compared to the previous year. The college is currently in the third year of its unique curriculum, which combines extensive research with learning through real-world experience. Its mantra “Do Something Different” has been used to describe the many exciting opportunities students receive at C-SC during their educational journey.
