Wednesday, February 09, 2011

CANTON, Mo. -- Officials with Culver-Stockton College are excited to announce that the college is being featured in an episode of “Today in America” with Terry Bradshaw. The program focuses on the topics, trends and issues related to “The Value of a Liberal Arts Education in Today’s Challenging Times” as part of the show’s “American Education” series.

The program will air in the Phoenix and Flagstaff, Ariz., television markets Feb. 12, 19 and 26 at 6:30 a.m. on “Arizona’s Own” KAZ-TV. It will also air on CNN Headline News Saturday, Feb. 12 in the Grand Rapids, Mich., and Minneapolis and St. Paul, Minn., television markets. The Travel Channel will also broadcast the segment at 5:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 16.

The segment previously aired in the Washington, D.C.; Baltimore, Md.; and Richmond, Va., markets. Future air dates are pending in the Chicago, Ill.; St. Louis, Mo.; Kansas City, Mo.; Springfield, Ill.; Des Moines, Iowa; and Indianapolis, Ind., television markets. The entire segment can also be viewed online at www.culver.edu/youtube.

The segment takes an in-depth look at how liberal arts institutions, like Culver-Stockton, are preparing students for the careers and job fields of the future by exposing them to a wide-range of subject matter, experiences and opportunities. “At Culver-Stockton we teach students how to think, not what to think,” said C-SC President Richard Valentine. “That philosophy is the cornerstone of the liberal arts education, and we believe it is that approach to learning that gives our students the confidence, knowledge and ability they need to become the leaders of tomorrow,” he added.

“Today in America” also profiles Culver-Stockton’s unique 12/3 week academic calendar and the many opportunities it offers students. During the 12-week semester, students pursue several courses and are engaged in hands-on learning experiences with real-world applications. In the 3-week term, most students focus primarily on one course. This allows students to immerse themselves in a subject of extreme interest, conduct research, take part in an internship or study abroad for coursework.
