A total of 87 projects were on display in the Science Center on the C-SC campus. “I was amazed at the diversity and degree of difficulty within the project presentations, and how well the students were prepared to present their work and hypothesis,” said Culver-Stockton President Richard Valentine, who attended the event along with C-SC Board of Trustee Chairman Ron Leftwich. Leftwich was equally impressed by the dedication of the young scientists. “I really liked the variety of projects, and the work that went into the projects. What struck me was how well prepared the students were and the fact that they looked me right in the eyes when talking about their project, and how well they could explain what the project was and the outcome,” commented Leftwich. Dr. Indiren Pillay, C-SC chair of the Division of Natural and Mathematical Sciences, expressed gratitude to Dr. Mohamed El-Bermawy, professor of chemistry and biology; and Dr. Lauren Schellenberger, assistant professor of biology, for their work in organizing, hosting and judging entries during the event. In addition, Pillay noted, “The students were very enthusiastic and clearly enjoyed being able to display their academic efforts.” The 54th Annual Science Fair will be held Saturday, Feb. 25, 2012 on the campus of Culver-Stockton College.
