With the Schwans’ gift, renovations began in May to add touch screen computers, photographs and a smart board, which help showcase some of the hands-on learning opportunities in which C-SC students are engaged. The interactive displays help demonstrate the truly unique experiences offered at Culver-Stockton; while seating areas provide a location for prospective students to meet counselors and faculty members to discuss programs and courses of interest. The hope is that a brief tour of the Joesph ’59 and Charlann Schwan Discovery and Opportunity Conference Center will provide prospective students with a better understanding of courses that involve travel; research opportunities, including the genomics initiative offered at C-SC through a partnership with Howard Hughes Medical Institute; or fine arts activities like Culver-Stockton’s touring concert choir; and much more. “I’m very proud to be part of this amazing addition, and if I can help future students have the opportunity to experience Culver-Stockton the way that I did that would be great,” says Schwan. “I’m also extremely excited to see the school embracing technology to give prospective students a better understanding of what C-SC is all about.” The Joseph ’59 and Charlann Schwan Discovery and Opportunity Conference Center is located on the second floor of Henderson Hall on the Culver-Stockton Campus.
