C-SC Homeland Security students tour Quincy Regional Airport
Tuesday, February 07, 2012

CANTON, Mo. – Students enrolled in Culver-Stockton’s “Homeland Security” course took their education to new heights as they visited Quincy Regional Airport in early February. The students met with airport manager Marty Stegeman, as well as a federal officer with the Transportation Security Administration (TSA).

Touring the facilities and meeting with personnel responsible for the operations and security of the airport facilities, employees, and visitors gave students the personal experience that complements and transcends the classroom learning environment. As Stegeman pointed out, though Quincy Regional Airport is a small airport, it has the same challenges and security concerns as larger airports as illustrated by the president’s visit a couple years ago. “Living in rural, northeast Missouri, we may think we are isolated from the potential dangers found in metropolitan areas, but there are facilities that may be attractive targets, and weather related hazards are always a potential threat,” explains David Carrothers, C-SC senior lecturer in criminal justice.
