Culver-Stockton student selected for internship studying HIV transmission
Monday, April 09, 2012
CANTON, Mo. – Culver-Stockton College junior Michelle Hall was recently selected as one of just three students from across the country to take part in a prestigious internship at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Center for Virology.
Hall, a biology major from St. Louis, Mo., will spend 10 weeks on the University of Nebraska-Lincoln campus studying the transmission of HIV with a university professor and other selected interns. In previous years, just three to four students have been selected for the internship. “I was beyond excited when I received the e-mail saying I was selected. I almost started crying; then I called my mom! There is a lot of stress involved in applying for internships, because it will really help with my graduate school application,” explains Hall. “My plan is to attend graduate school for medical research. Then I want to work in a lab somewhere researching diseases, hopefully developing cures and methods of treatment. So, the type of research I’ll be helping with during my internship is perfect. I wasn’t really expecting to be researching something as big and risky as the transmission of HIV, but it’s really ground-breaking” she continued. Hall will begin her internship with the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in early June.
