Culver-Stockton IMA chapter, student receive national honors

CANTON, Mo. -- The Culver-Stockton College Institute of Management Accountants (IMA) Student Chapter is one of four in the nation to be named an Outstanding Student Chapter.

This award recognizes the top four Student Chapters in the nation for the highest level of achievement. In addition to Culver-Stockton College, California State University – Fresno, University of Wyoming and Western Illinois University were recipients of this award. The Culver-Stockton College Student Chapter competes annually in the competition and has received the Outstanding Student Chapter award for eleven of the last thirteen years. The competition requires student chapters to develop a strategic plan and budget, conduct educational programs, participate in community service, and other required programming.

The achievements of IMA student chapters throughout the nation will be celebrated at the Student & Academic Awards Luncheon to be held at the IMA Annual Conference on Sunday, June 24 in Las Vegas.

In addition to the IMA Student Chapter’s recognition, Lisa Button, junior accountancy and finance major from Adel, Iowa, was awarded the Stuart Cameron McLeod Society Memorial Scholarship. Button will also be recognized at the Student & Academic Awards Luncheon to be held at the IMA Annual Conference on Sunday, June 24 in Las Vegas. In addition to a cash prize of $5,000, Button will receive all expenses paid to attend the IMA Annual Conference in Las Vegas and the IMA Student Leadership Conference in San Antonio, Texas in November. Button serves as the President of the IMA Student Chapter, and she will serve as a co-president of the Quincy Area Chapter of the IMA. She has presented at the Quincy Area Chapter meetings and the Heartland Council Regional Conference. Accounting professors Dr. Dell Ann Janney and Julie Straus will attend the IMA Annual Conference with Button and IMA Student Chapter secretary, Kim Armstrong, senior accountancy and finance major from Memphis, Mo.
