Culver-Stockton College sees dramatic increase in donations

CANTON, Mo. -- Culver-Stockton College’s overall donations increased 56 percent in the 2011-2012 fiscal year. The 2010-2011 fiscal year’s total gifts of $2.03 million was shattered by this year’s total giving of $3.17 million, which is the highest level of giving to C-SC in a decade.

Alumni donations were up 28 percent in dollars received and the overall number of donors increased by 3 percent. Donations from churches, corporations, employees, parents and trustees also saw sizable increases. The increase in donations was in response to the recently launched three-year comprehensive campaign, “A Vision for Our Future.” Funds donated to the campaign are being used to enrich the current student’s experience and to encourage future students to make C-SC their college of choice.

With the money “A Vision for Our Future” raised in the 2011-2012 year, significant improvements are already being made throughout the campus. Students in all disciplines will see enhancements in their daily experience at C-SC: a new greenhouse is under construction for the Science Center, a business technology center will be enriching the Herrick Foundation Center, an education simulation classroom went into Henderson Hall and a state-of-the-art recording studio was added to the Robert W. Brown Performing Arts Center. The library has received extensive upgrades, including an elevator, new furnishings and, soon to be completed, a large coffee shop. The coffee shop, called The Lab, will be open to the public and was designed for hosting activities with its video displays, stage and amazing campus view overlooking the Mississippi River. Returning students will also notice a new pedestrian walkway and green space area with many benches and decorative lighting.

“Scholarships, the campus environment, and student engagement are all major pieces of the college experience. And we’re very passionate about these. Every improvement is being made with the student experience in mind,” explained Richard Valentine, president of the college.

While giving has seen large increases, important goals in “A Vision for Our Future” have yet to be met. The college plans to use future donations toward a new Recreation and Wellness Center, campus beautification and increasing student scholarships. While donations have increased, alumni and friends of C-SC still have the opportunity to make an impact around the campus for current and future students.

“Donors are excited about the impact their gifts have. They want to invest in the experience on the Hill, knowing that their support will have a noticeable impact on a new generation. I look forward to seeing our students, alumni and friends enjoying the new features that our campus will offer starting this fall,” said Eric Barkley, vice president of advancement and alumni programs.
